This is Volume I of a three volume set. The volumes collected "...Fremont's personal and public papers pertinent to his early travel, gathered from scores of sources throughout the United States. The earliest documents cover his explorations in the upper Mississippi Valley with Joseph N. Nicollet." Also included are Fremont's official reports of the 1842 expedition to South Pass and the Wind River Mountain, and of the 1843-44 expedition to Oregon and California.
