Paris:: Charles Warée, 1844. First edition. Full leather, dark brown boards, with embossed design to the front and rear boards. Raised bands to spine with gilt design. Black label with gilt titles. A little rubbing to the boards. Marbled end papers. Internally clean and tidy, with 30 plates on high quality stiff paper, and attractive engraved illustrations and vignettes throughout. In the style of - quote: the French people painted by themselves - a picturesque and humorous gallery of portraits of foreigners: the English, the American, the Moldovan-Wallachian, the Hungarian, the Arab, the Turkish, the Swiss, Egyptian, Colonist, Chinese, Dutch, German, Italian, Persian, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian, etc. A little foxing to the pages, but overall in good condition. Circa 1844. xxxv-528 pp. 255 x 180 mm (10 x 7 inches). Plein cuir, planches marron foncé, avec motif en relief sur les planches avant et arrière. Bandes surélevées à la colonne vertébrale avec motif doré. Etiquette noire avec titres dorés. Un petit frottement sur les planches. Feuilles de garde marbrées. Intérieurement propre et bien rangé, avec 30 planches sur papier rigide de haute qualité, et des illustrations et vignettes gravées attrayantes partout. A la manière de - citation : les français peints par eux-mêmes - une galerie pittoresque et humoristique de portraits d'étrangers : les anglais, les américains, les moldaves-valaques, les hongrois, les arabes, les turcs, les suisses, les égyptiens, les colons, chinois, néerlandais, allemand, italien, persan, portugais, espagnol, russe, etc. Un peu de rousseurs aux pages, mais dans l'ensemble en bon état.
