Sobre este item

Mexico: Fondo de Cultura Economica,, 1953. Rare in jacket First edition, first printing, of Rulfo's first book. This collection of short stories precedes his modern masterpiece of Spanish American literature, Pedro Páramo (1955), and both established Rulfo's literary reputation. This edition is rarely found in such nice condition and in the jacket. Set in the harsh countryside of the Jalisco region where Rulfo was raised, the stories explore the tragic lives and sufferings of its inhabitants. They were first translated into English in 1967 as The Burning Plain and Other Stories. Small octavo. Original light blue cloth, spine and front board lettered in black, pale grey endpapers. With dust jacket. Contemporary stamp and ticket of Buenos Aires bookseller José Sosín Saborido to front free endpaper. Spine and extremities mildly sunned, some spots of foxing at head of sides and to top edge of book block, contents clean. A very good copy in like faintly marked jacket, unclipped, spine panel toned, extremities rubbed with a couple of small chips and nicks, short tear at tail of rear panel spine fold.
