London: Bernard Quaritch, 1899. First editon thus - dated 1899 on the title pages. Very early work. Green cloth covered boards with gold gilt embossed decorative front cover and has a new leather spine to match the boards. NOT an ex library book. This book has been professionally resewn with new front and rear end sheets that closely match the original. The book is tightly bound and square. The book pages are bright for the age of the book. The book has a decorative frontispiece picture which is covered by a tissue guard. The front end sheet and the frontispiece picture and the page after show light foxing - but the body of the book shows nearly no foxing. The book has gold gilt top edges. I noticed one page that had a small tear to the bottom of the page (page 33/34) . The covers are very clean and the gold gilt decoration on the front cover is very bright. The spine of the book has been replaced with matching green leather and the original spine and it's gold gilt title have been removed. Very collectible book. The book show some rubbing wear along the top front board. . First Thus. Hard Cover. Collectible Very Good/No Dust Jacket. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.

Boston: Printed by John Wilson and Son, 1865. First edition thus. 8vo, 23 x 17cm, [vii], viii, [ix], xi, [1], 104pp. Original brown pebbled cloth ruled in blind and gilt stamped lettering to front cover. T.e.g. Very good with fading to cloth around edges, softening to spine ends, and some spotting to rear board. Clean and sound internally. Important early American translation of Dante, published shortly before Longfellow's version of the Divine Comedy in 1867. Thomas William Parsons, poet and dentist from Boston, made frequent trips to Italy to study the Italian master, committing much of his work to memory, its influence becoming apparent in his own verse. His most famous poem, "On a Bust of Dante," was originally published in 1841 and is included in this volume. Also printed here is Parsons' letter to the Duke of Sermoneta, Don Michelangelo Caetani, explaining his method of translating Dante, in which he "developed the alternate quatrain, which is our measure nearest to the Italian." Trumansburg, NY: Out of Step Press. Fine with no dust jacket. 2016. Numbered Edition; First Printing. Pamphlet. The author's non-linear poem about the billeting of soldiers in civilian homes in wartime. Copy 89 of a limited edition of 250. Folded into the form of a letter, the work was letterpress printed in wraps of handmade "combat paper" made from military uniforms. The author says: "Some time ago-maybe a year, maybe two? I had a conversation with some of my Combat Paper brothers (well, the kids call them their combat paper uncles, so it follows…) that led to me writing the poem "Quartering." Which was informed by them, of course, and by all the rooms I'm in, and by imagining what is really required of all the caregivers I love. It's a thought experiment: if we tore down the barracks at military hospitals and offered incentives for Americans in the surrounding neighborhoods to quarter injured service members, what would the honest instructions… Ler mais
