All photos are reproduced in gorgeous gravure (which the book is not) and in a larger format than the book. Additionally included are some large gatefold foldouts, none of which appear in the book. Text in German by Claes Oldenburg, Urs Widmer, Henri Paucker. CONDITION: Very Good Plus (VG+); a solid, tight, clean copy with light foxing to fore edge of text block that barely carries into the fore-margin of most pages (but does not affect the images), tiny bit of loss to center of lower margin of back cover.

Unpaginated, a first edition copy of Davidson's series of classic black and white images, taken over the period of 2 years in one block of East Harlem. A small diagonal crease along the lower right hand page corner and a minute tear, else a beautiful and clean copy of this very sought after title. No inscriptions. Davidson started his career working with a small hand-held camera in the tradition of Gene Smith and other famous photojournalists, often working without being noticed or attempting to fade into the background. For the East 100th Street work he determined to face his subjects openly, taking a large format camera on a tripod together with flash into their appartments. The picture that emerged was a collaboration between photographer and the subjects, the inhabitants of one of the toughest blocks in New York.. First American Edition. Illustrated Soft Cover.
