Which [Old and Young,] [Married Men and Women,] [Batchelors and Maids, Delight to be Resolved of. Brought into England by John Booker. Historical introduction on how it was originally from Egypt and eventually brought out of Turkey. There is mention of Heathern Philosophers, Jugglers, Witchcraft, Black-arts & Dr Robert Fludd. Includes instructions. The main part consists of poetic answers to questions e.g. Be not to hasty yet to marry, Let me advise thee still to tarry, When e'er thou wedd'st, thou'lt live in Strife, Then keep thyself without a Wife.John Booker was a noted Astrologer. Born Manchester 1601/3-1667. He was a friend of the astrologer William Lilly (1602-1681) and is mentioned several times in his autobiography. London: Printed and Sold at the Printing-Office in Aldermary Church-Yard [Price Discovering XXXVI. Several Questions. One Shilling and Six-pence]. Woodcut vignette on the title-page of a fortune-teller and his customer. no date (one source dates this edition in the 1600's another c1750 and states that the attribution to John Booker maybe spurious). pp Title, ii-iv, 5-12, 15-28, 33-40 + 10 leaves of diagrams numbered 1-72. (Total 22 leaves - there would appear to be 3 missing) Typographical ornaments. watermark on page 5/6, piece of cover lower left approx 3 x 5cm missing, all pages disbound, frayed & partly browned. There are remnants of printed paper adhered to some pages plus some old ink markings. pb fair
