Benjamin H. Arthur served in the Mexican War. He was with General Taylor as adjutant in Northern Mexico, where his unit did gallant service at the capture of Monterey. He was also present during the occupation of Mexico City in 1847. He fought in the Indian wars as well, skirmishing with the Apaches along Live Oak Creek near present-day Batesville, Texas.,
This is his commission as First Lieutenant, signed by President Polk. Document signed, with an eagle, stars, flags and cannon, Washington, December 24, 1846, naming Arthur First Lieutenant in the First Regiment of Infantry, effective September 1, 1846. He would soon achieve the rank of Captain.
He died in 1856 and his widow received a pension.
