Captivating work telling the fascinating story of the Americanization of the Jewish immigrants in all its aspects. The book is organized around the life of a fabulous character of the time, Abraham Cahan. When Calan became the editor of the "Jewish Daily Forward" it was a minor Yiddish-language newspaper; at the peak of its career, and of his, it had one of the largest circulations of any newspaper in America. With a novelistic gift for character and detail, the author analyzes and discusses the process by which America Americanizes its immigrants. This work is profusely illustrated with 16 pages of b/w photographic reproductions. Very minor rubbing and age-toning along edges of wrappers. Price clipped on front flap. Wraps in overall good+, binding and interior in good+ to very good condition.

Great discussion of the Jewish immigrant experience. Explains in detail the rise of Abraham Cahan and the largest Yiddish newspaper, The Daily Jewish Forward. It is a good history of the rise of labor forces from the garment industry.
