First edition, first impression, of the author's last published novel, this copy remarkably well-preserved, with the scarce Book of the Month wraparound band retained. Henry Green was the pseudonym of Henry Vincent Yorke (1905-1973). "In his last three novels, Concluding (1948), Nothing (1950), and Doting (1952), the concerns of story and plot are sidelined in the construction of texts that circle constantly around the figures of desire and decay", issues with which Green toyed throughout his nine novels (ODNB). Octavo. Original green-blue cloth, titles to spine in gilt, top edge red. With dust jacket and Daily Mail Book of the Month wraparound band. Neglible rubbing to board edges, light offsetting to endpapers, a near-fine copy, uncommonly bright, in the excellent jacket, unclipped, with faint toning to spine, slight creasing and nicks to edges, slight spot to front flap, small instance of tape-repair to verso of wraparound band.
Sinopse
Henry Green was the pen name of Henry Vincent Yorke. He was born in 1905 at the family home of his parents, near Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire, England, and was educated at Eton and Oxford. He worked at the family engineering firm for most of his life and pursued a parallel career as a novelist. He married in 1929 and had one son. During WWII he served for the duration in the London Fire Brigade. He died in December 1973.
