Sobre este item

Paris: Jean Petit [Johanis Petit], 1521. Hardcover. Very Good. Vellum spine over paper-covered boards, hand-lettered on spine. Rebound, probably in the 20th century, with new endpapers, I suspect the vellum is new, page edges speckled. They've been trimmed but lightly: the outside margin is about 7/16", top margin about 1/4", and bottom margin about 1-1/16". Faded or washed ink writing to title page, some margin lines and brief marginalia to text, else near fine. Maillard was a popular Franciscan preacher, with a strong satirical bent. (see Lindvall, God Mocks, p. 50) "As miracles soon occurred at his grave, the General Chapter of Barcelona in 1508 ordered that his remains should be translated to a chapel built specially for them, where for some time he enjoyed a certain amount of public veneration."
