Sobre este item

New York: Street & Smith Publications, January, February, March 1960. Digest-size Magazine. Very Good-. Jan has "-20" inked to front cover. Feb has notes inked to table of contents, otherwise interiors tanned but unmarked. Rubbing, edgewear, and creasing. Spine ends chipped. Tears at hinge ends. Not from a library. 540 pages.

Harry Harrison's novel Deathworld is the first book in his Deathworld series and was a finalist for the 1961 Hugo Award. It first appeared in print when it was serialized in the January, February, and March 1960 issues of Astounding Science Fact & Fiction magazine with cover art (Jan) and 15 interior illustrations by H. R. Van Dongen. Deathworld centers on Jason dinAlt, a professional gambler who uses his somewhat erratic psionic abilities to tip the odds in his favor. He is challenged by a man named Kerk Pyrrus (who turns out to be the ambassador from the planet Pyrrus) to turn a large amount of money into an immense sum by gambling at a government-run casino. He succeeds and survives the planetary government's desperate efforts to steal back the money. In a fit of ennui, he decides to accompany Kerk to his home, despite being warned that it is the deadliest world ever colonized by humans. Deathworld is one of the classics of the Golden Age of science fiction, born in the pages of Astounding Science Fiction under the editorship of John W. Campbell, Jr.

January was last issue of the magazine published solely under the "Astounding" name. February and March were the first two issues with "Science Fact & Fiction" in the title and a ghost of "Analog" on the covers previewing the change to that title.
