Sobre este item

UK,8vo HB+protected dw/dj,SIGNED,ex-library,1st edn. [Complete number line 2 4 6 8 10 9 7 5 3 1.] NFINE/FINE+. An ex-public library book,so no owner inscrptn, but author's neat, black ink signature - without dedication to the title page, and no price-clip to protected dw/dj.Front free endpaper has been torn out and removed and in doing so,has slightly caught and affected part of half-title's gutter's edge.To the title page also,a 'WITHDRAWN FROM PLYMOUTH LIBRARY SERVICES' red inked library stamp and to verso of title page,an adhesive b/w library label pasted to it,and to rear pastedown is a rectangular white paper security(?) label - these are the ONLY library notations/indications to the book.Protected in a clear protective sleeve,bright,crisp,clean,wrap-around colour, scenic photographic illustrated dw/dj,with white and fluorescent silver gilt lettering; with negligible shelf-wear - if any - to edges and corners - no nicks or tears present.Bright, crisp, clean, publisher's original,sharp-cornered,plain black cloth boards with bright, crisp, blocked silver gilt letters to spine/ backstrip,a black headband and immaculate plain, dark blue endpapers - missing ffe excepted.A tiny red ink line to top edge towards the headband.Top+fore-edges bright and clean; contents bright, tight, clean, solid and sound - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners.Described honestly and fairly - even as an ex-library book, with the listed imperfections - it is still in exceptional condition and state.UK copies with author's signature are uncommon due to the few and infrequent personal appearances and signings of the author in/at UK signing and literay events.Author of THE BROOKLYN FOLLIES and THE BOOK OF ILLUSIONS.
Seventy-two-year-old August Brill is at his daughter's house in Vermont, recovering from a car accident. When sleep refuses to come, he lies in bed and tells himself stories, struggling to push back thoughts about things he would prefer to forget - his wife's recent death and the horrific murder of his granddaughter's boyfriend,Titus.
August imagines a parallel world in which America is not at war with Iraq but with itself. In this other America the Twin Towers did not fall, and the 2000 election results led to secession,as state after state pulled away from the union, and a bloody civil war ensued. As the night progresses,August's story grows increasingly intense.and what he is so desperately trying to avoid insists on being told.
