Sobre este item

Oxford: J. Vincent,, 1843. First edition, first printing, of the author's second separate publication (following the rare Alaric at Rome, 1840), marking Arnold's receipt of the Newdigate Prize while at Balliol College. With the ownership signature of the philosopher Richard Congreve, then a student at Wadham College, Oxford, and a former pupil of Arnold's father at Rugby. Octavo. Near contemporary purple cloth, original wrappers bound in, label to spine lettered in manuscript. Boards slightly faded, tips rubbed, some loss to label, a little minor foxing to contents, skilfully reattached to spine. A very good copy.
