A biographical novel about Mother Elizabeth Seton. Seton (1774-1821) was the first natural born United States citizen to be canonized by the Catholic church. She converted to Catholicism in 1805 after the death of her husband, with whom she had five children. Her legacy includes founding the first Catholic girls' school and founding the religious order, the Sisters of Charity. She was canonized in 1975. "Clare Simone Seramur tells us the epic story of this lovely, aristocratic Protestant girl of Old New York in our nation's infancy, who, as a young widow with five children to rear, becomes a convert to the Catholic faith, unintentionally alienating her friends and relatives at the very time she needs them most" (jacket).
8vo. Bound in light blue paper covered boards with gilt title to spine. Slight fading and bumping around edges. Yellowing to pages throughout, though text remains bright. Includes frontispiece illustration of Mother Elizabeth Seton. Blue illustrated price clipped dust jacket with white title to front and spine panels. Spine panel has faded to grey.
