Sobre este item
London : Printed by John Darby for Richard Chiswell, and Robert Clavell, 1669 A very good copy of the 1st edition of Johann Shroder's work in English, translated by William Rowland. An extremely scarce work. Johann Shroder (1600-1664) was a German physician and pharmacologist and is credited as the first person to recognise arsenic as an element - producing it by heating its oxide in 1649. This work was published in Latin in 1662. This copy has been recently rebound in half leather with marbled boards. The spine has gilt lined raised bands and titles. New endpapers have been added. Contents: title page with ink signature of Wm Goodwin ('bought of Mrs Field') and John Hurnon; Dedication by William Rowland 3pp; Book I - Introduction pp 1-49; blank; Book 2 'Of the Shop' pp 51-147; blank; Book 3 'called Macrocosmology - treating of the Great World, or Mineralogy, Treating of Minerals' pp 149-283; blank; Book 4 'Phytologia' pp 385-505; Book 5 'Zoology' pp 506-545; Finis; blank; Table 11pp; publisher's advert 1p. The binding is in near fine condition. Internally pages have some brown toning (some darker than others - and some with light spotting) and there is darker tone to the top margins. P 207 lacks the corner tip and some pages have corners turned over. Contents generally very clean with just the odd mark.

Other areas include children's books, particularly late 1800's-early 1900's - again illustrated; and literature pre 1900.When you order books from us we ensure that they are properly packed to protect condition, and we always use recorded or 'signed for' postal services for more secure delivery. Please note that we have recently moved to the beautiful Orkney Islands, where we intend to open a bookshop over the next year. Because of our location we cannot guarantee 'next day' delivery but we will get your purchase to you as quickly and safely as we can. Please note that the buyer is responsible for the payment of any tax or duty on import.
