The reminiscences of the author, told in fiction form, of her life in Poland with her family from 1939 until the end of the war. For, as the rear panel blurb states "... One day, they have to cope with waves of German soldiers bursting through their houses; the next moment, the Warsaw ghetto burns; another day, they wake to find the frontline in their front garden..." Inserted loosely into the book is a copy of documentation for the winner of Alan Marshall Award, 1978, of this particular book.
