A first edition copy of Edward Lear's 'Nonsense Songs', inscribed by the actor, Anthony Quayle, to Robert Hardy, dated 1949. The first edition. Part of the 'Crown Classics' series. In the original full pictorial cloth binding with the publisher's clipped dust wrapper. With an ink inscription to the front free endpaper reading, 'Robert Hardy, from Anthony Quayle, Opening of the Australian tour of the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre Company's Much Ado, and Macbeth. His Majesty's Theatre, Melbourne. Australia, Oct. 1949'. Sir John Anthony Quayle was an Oscar nominated actor and theatre director best known for his roles in popular films such as, 'The Guns of Navarone', 'Lawrence of Arabia', and 'Anne of the Thousand'. Robert Hardy was an English actor best known for his role as 'Cornelius Fudge', in the Harry Potter series and for his numerous portrayals of Winston Churchill. A collection of 'nonsense songs', by Edward Lear. Including titles such as, 'The Owl and the Pussy-cat', and 'The Cummerbund'. Edward Lear was an English artist, author, and poet who is best known for his literary nonsense and limericks. Illustrated and with an introduction by Leonard Russell. The half title page is present. With a bookseller's label to the front paste-down. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Externally, smart with minor shelf wear to the extremities. Some spotting to the boards and age-toning to the lower boards. Bookseller's label to the front paste-down. The odd spot to the free endpapers and paste-downs. Ink inscription from Anthony Quayle to the front free endpaper. The original clipped dust wrapper is in smart condition. Shelf wear and chipping to the edges and spine, Marks and spotting to the panels. Spine is darkened. Internally, firmly bound. Pages age-toned but otherwise very bright and clear with just the odd small mark. Very Good Indeed

Where are We?
Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
