Sobre este item

New York City, NY: Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 2001. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. Fine/Fine Dust Jacket.. New York City, NY: Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 2001. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First Edition/First Printing. 183 pages. Book-length account on subject. One of the most brilliant non-fiction crime accounts of our time. Review Copy. Review Material laid-in. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. Presents Philip Gourevitch's "A Cold Case". The coldest of cold cases: In 1970, a criminal named Frankie Koehler killed two men in cold blood, then vanished. He was eventually given up for dead. But: Nothing disturbs a good and determined cop like a dangerous fugitive who got away with murder. Thirty years later, lawman and fugitive finally cross paths. Gourevitch vividly describes murder as an inescapable aspect of the human condition. In immaculate prose, he follows former NYPD Officer Andy Rosenzweig (subsequently an investigator with the Manhattan District Attorney's office) who, like Koehler, was raised on the streets of New York, "a city that has all but disappeared, except in the hands of capable writers. Gourevitch lets his pitch-perfect dialogue do much of the work" (Publisher's blurb) . What Gourevitch has achieved in a mere 183 pages recalls Truman Capote's ground-breaking achievement with "In Cold Blood" (1965) , and is more suspenseful than most crime/mystery thrillers. "Who speaks for the dead? Nobody. Nobody speaks for the dead unless we do" (Philip Gourevitch) . An absolute "must-have" title for Philip Gourevitch collectors. This is a Review Copy. It comes with the Review Material: A pristine - and brilliant - 5 X 7 inch silver-gelatin print of the author. It is very prominently, neatly, and beautifully signed, placed, and dated in black ink-pen on the title page by the author: "Philip Gourevitch NYC 2017". It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. The print is also very prominently and beautifully signed in black pen-marker in front by the author. This title is a contemporary classic. As far as we know, this is the only such signed copy (with signed photographic print) of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Copies available online have serious flaws, are in subsequent printings, or are remainder-marked. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare signed set thus. Winner of the National Book Critics Award and the Los Angeles Times Best Book of The Year Award in 1998 for "We Wish To Inform You That Tomorrow We Will Be Killed With Our Families". One of the most brilliant journalist/literary artists of our time. A fine copy. . ISBN 0374125139.
