First edition of this scarce travel brochure touting the advantages of U.S. tourists to bring their own cars and travel over the Carretera Central which ran the entire length of the Island from Pinar del Rio to Santiago de Cuba, over 700 miles. The highway construction launched in may, 1927, and when finished proved very popular as a means to see the island. Tourists could bring their own cars from Tampa, Miami, or Key West on a ferryboat, and travel through Cuba. No copies in Worldcat.

Original brown cloth hardcover, with numerous maps, sketches, and photogravures of the proposed route and buildings.(1) folding sketch of lines and reconnaissances, (11) large fold out maps and detail drawings, 56 full page photogravures accompany the text, a detailed report of the survey. All maps, photogravures, and drawings are intact. Slight foxing on front free endpaper and on back flyleaves. Binding is tight, inside pages very clean. Hardcover boards show some wear along margins. Gilt title along spine is well preserved. This publication details the the survey for the ultimately unsuccessful attempt to build the canal. An enviable and important original resource for any historian of the region or America.
