Sobre este item

Archive of one book and one pamphlet providing information about the cultivation and sociological study of marijuana, both from 1970. Archive includes:

[1] The Complete Cannabis Cultivator informational pamphlet produced by Stone Kingdom Syndicate and attributed to "Mary Jane Superweed." San Rafael: Sunshine Manufacturing & Import Co., 1969. 16 pages. 8.5" x 5.5". Staple bound with light green softcover wrappers with orange text and graphic design of a woman in a sunhat and apron watering a plant. This pamphlet provides step by step instruction on the growth and maintenance of marijuana plants. A disclaimer on first page reads "The author, editor and publisher of this book do not wish to encourage the violation of any existing laws. This manual is printed for its educational value and as a humble addition to the total of mankind's knowledge." The pamphlet is facetiously dedicated to "our beloved leader Mr. R. M. Nixon without whose Mexican-American policy this book might not have been necessary." Printed on the inner front and back wrapper is Stone Kingdom's "Statement to the People" and printed on back cover is a list of pamphlets available for mail order from the publisher, including titles such as "D.M.T. Guide," "Supermothers Cooking with Grass", and "Herbal Aphrodisiacs." Pamplet is marked with pen and colored pencil on front and back cover and bears light discoloration and staining. Inner pages beginning to separate from binding. Fair condition.

[2] Smith, David E. The New Social Drug: Cultural, Medical, and Legal Perspectives on Marijuana. Englewood Cliffs, NJ: Prentice-Hall, Inc., 1970. 186 pages. 8vo. Softcover in vibrant purple with white and green text and illustration in green of a marijuana plant. Editor David E. Smith brings together essays and studies from fourteen contributers, each experts in their respective fields, on the social, pharmacological, and legal aspects of marijuana use. Sections include "Pharmacology and Classification," "The Issue of Marijuana Abuse," "Marijuana as a Social Issue", "The Issue of Marijuana Regulation", and "Marijuana as a Political Issue." Back cover reads "In this myth-destroying book, doctors, lawyers, sociologists, psychologists, and other professionals provide long-needed information on every aspect of marijuana and its use. Here are just a few conclusions taken from their well-documented studies: Marijuana is not as dangerous as is commonly believed. Current marijuana laws are excessively harsh. Marijuana use is directly related to the new life styles of 'turned on' American youth." Light wear at edges, overall very good condition.

This archive brings together different perspectives on the emerging marijuana and psychedelic subculture in America in the 1970s. Overall good condition.
