Sobre este item

London: Art and Technics, 1950 . First edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Good. 8.5" by 6.5". John O'Connor. A first edition of this charming work on canal-life, with colourful illustrations, both written and engraved by John O' Connor. First edition, in the publisher's original quarter cloth binding, with bright patterned boards and the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Written and engraved by John O'Connor. This interesting work presents the beauty, character and utility of canal boats and barges, as well as the people who live on them, with a focus on O'Connor's own time on a barge. With stories on the Foxton Locks, the night scene at a lock and the Roman canal, among many others, O'Connor paints a charming and beautiful image. With twenty-four full page colour illustrations and a sketch-map of canals and places mentioned in the text to both endpapers. In the publisher's original quarter cloth binding, with patterned boards and the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, lovely, with the occasional light mark and small bump to the extremities. The odd mark to endpapers. Dust wrapper is smart, with light chipping to the extremities and loss to the tail of the front board. Wraps are lightly soiled, with sunning to the spine and the odd mark. Light spotting to the wrap, mainly to the reverse. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean, with the odd spot to the fore edge and to the first and last few pages. Near Fine
