Sobre este item

London: Macmillan, 1976. [Espionage] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (22 x 14cm), pp.xii; 486. Illustrated with a suit of black and white photographic plates. Publisher's blue cloth, pictorial dust-wrapper priced £4.95. Contents clean, text block toned in gatherings, ink ownership to flyleaf, jacket a little edge worn. A very good copy. Basis for the 1979 mini-series starring David Niven, this is the story of the covert BSC security agency under William Stephenson (1897-1989) who was Winston Churchill's personal choice to led British Intelligence for the entire western hemisphere during World War II. Known by his wartime intelligence codename "Intrepid", his friend and colleague Ian Fleming described him as the 'real James Bond'. The similarly-named author was a war correspondent and Royal Navy fighter pilot.
