Imprinted at London by Robert Barker, printer to the Queenes most excellent Maiestie, anno. 1603., 1603.. 1603 4to. Maps and woodcuts in the text. Roman type. Herbert 274 with the colophon stating 'Printer to the Kings most excellent majestie.' Bound with a Common Prayer, lacking its title and one leaf of the Kalendar and followed by The Whole Booke of Psalmes ... , Imprinted by John Windet, for the Company of Stationers, 1604. This has an old paper repair without loss to the title and ends at Psalm CXL. New period style calf binding. Boards panelled with blind lines. Spine with raised bands and a contrasting label. Handmade endpapers. Extensive contemporary family records of the Hamond family on the blank verso of the final leaf of the Common Prayer and the blank signed Aj preceding the title of the Bible. Top corner of the title has a paper repair which just touches the printed area. Overall clean, and with good margins throughout. A very good copy.

Composite general title (1614) with woodcut border comprising twenty-four small compartments showing the tents of the twelve tribes as well as the figures of the twelve apostles. Title is enclosed within a heart-shaped frame. Text in two column black letter. With Apocrypha as issued. Similar New Testament woodcut title page (1613). Concludes with the Two Tables, ending on the colophon (1613). First chapter woodcuts initials, head- and tailpieces.
Collation: *^2, A-Z^8, Aa-Zz^8, Aaa-Hhh^8, Iii^2, *^2, Kkk-Yyy^8, Zzz^10. Complete.
Binding: Rebound in blind-stamped polished brown calf. Spine with four blind-ruled bands. The words "Holy Bible" and "1614" lettered in gilt. Plain endpapers.
Condition: Occasional dust-soiling; a few spots and other marks; light cropping to a few running titles; A7 small marginal loss to gutter; A-I mild stain to upper gutter; G-K, Z-Bb, Hh-Ii small lower marginal worm track with Aa7-Bb8 discreetly repaired; Ttt1 repaired to lower margin; 2 blank leaves inserted before the Concordances; closed tear to lower margin of New Testament title; early manuscript inscriptions to verso of general title page.

London [Amsterdam]: Imprinted by the Deputies of Christopher Barker,, 1599. A handsome Puritan bible A Bible probably printed for the use of English puritans in the Low Countries in the early 17th century. The metrical psalms are included, with a separate title and register. The Geneva version, translated by William Whittingham and other Marian exiles, went through more than 70 editions between 1560 and 1640. Although folio versions were produced for pulpit use, this was primarily a household Bible, typically printed as here in small, manageable quartos. Geneva Bibles with 1599 imprints have a complex bibliographical history. Herbert identifies at least eight distinct editions, and notes that "the nominal date, 1599, is probably untrue in almost every case; they were apparently published at different times in Amsterdam and Dort and adopted by Barker" (p. 115). The present text (Herbert's edition B), was printed from the earliest of these editions "at a somewhat later date" (p. 116). Geneva Bibles…
