Four children who set off, at the invitation of the King, to join their parents in the land beyond the Blue Mountains. On the way they meet various characters, both good and bad, such as Mrs. Discipline and her father Mr. Penalty, Fungus the Ferryman, Mrs. Steadfast, Mrs. Modesty and Charity the guide. An allegorical tale reminiscent of Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress. Green and blue pictorial cloth, gilt title blocks to front cover and spine. 6 full page b/w engravings plus chapter head and tailpieces. 191 pages. Spine and corners slightly bumped and rubbed. Front endpaper browned. Small price label 'awarded in connection with Chums Empire Map Scheme' on front pastedown. Small foxspots to endpapers and half-title page otherwise the contents are beautifully clean and bright with all plates present. A super copy of this title, exceptionally rare in first edition.
