Sobre este item

UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn.[Complete number line 1 3 5 7 9 10 8 6 4 2.] FINE/FINE.No owner inscrptn and no price-clip to dw/dj.Bright,crisp,clean,matt,subject's contemporary, b/w photographic portrait illustrated dw/dj with capitalised, grey+white lettered author/subject name and part-title too,and capitalised grey-lettered sub-title to front of dw/dj; a black spine/backstrip with similarly coloured+lettered author/suject name and part-title too,and publisher's white illustrated colophon to foot of same; rear panel of dw/dj with subject's contemporary b/w portrait photograph, and white-lettered prose extract from interior, and immaculate plain white endpapers.Negligible shelf-wear,bumping,creasing to edges and corners, both the head+foot of spine/backstrip with minimal bumping with reciprocal creasing, but no nicks, tears or splits present. Top+fore-edges inevitably with age-acquired toning but without foxing/spotting; – one accidental/intentional (?) top corner tip dog-ear crease to pp209,else contents with light page-edge toning but tight and, clean – appears unread, apart from my own collation.Publisher's bright, crisp,unblemished,sharp-cornered,original plain black cloth boards with bright, crisp, blocked gilt lettering to spine/ backstrip, and immaculate plain white endpapers.UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn,2-230pp [paginated] includes 31 chapters; plus [unpaginated] half-title+title pages,a dedication, separate Contents,Illustrations lists/tables,and to the rear,Acknowledgements. Visually the exterior appearance is more than acceptable and even internally,is also in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation, for a book of its 25 year-old age. It is only the minor faults described that prevents a slightly higher overall grading.Despite the described minor faults it really is still an acceptable copy for its cleanliness and lack of other major detracting faults. 'While you are at the table, bathed in that pool of golden light, you are touched by magic.' When he should have been studying at the Ernest Bevin Comprehensive in Tooting, Jimmy White was bunking off (truanting),with his friend Tony Meo,to Zan's Snooker Hall. Jimmy's education took place at a green baize table with a borrowed cue.And he was a fast learner. From those early 'amateur' years when he and Tony learned to hustle under the tutelage of someone known as Dodgy Bob,Jimmy White has earned a reputation on the professional circuit as 'The Whirlwind'.he plays snooker from the heart, not for safety. But having won £114,000 for scoring 147 on television it wasn't long before he gambled it all away on cards and blew the rest the following day on the horses. And when he was ten frames up against Stephen Hendry in the Sheffield Crucible World Championship in 1995,he famously failed to pot the black, and Hendry went on to win. But even if he has never won that elusive title,Jimmy White remains the people's champion.' However,he hasn't always been quite so popular at home, where gambling sprees, marathon binges and, once,a five week disappearing act have placed severe strains on his marriage. But Jimmy White has survived all - to tell in candid, often outrageous detail, his story of a life lived on the edge.
