Sobre este item
1807. Copper-line engraving. 60mm by 100mm (image only). A small French engraving from 'Voyage et transportation du fameux Barrington a Botan Bay, dans la Nouvelle Hollande', issued as part of 'Bibliotheque Geographique et Instructive des Jeunes Jens' published in Paris.
George Barrington (1755-1804) was a famous Irish-born pickpocket. In 1790,he was transported to Australia. After working for the police, he received an official pardon and in 1796 he was made chief constable at Parramatta. His name is used as author to several accounts of early life in Sydney but whether he was actually the author is in doubt. Rare.
