Illustrated with photographs and drawings. A history of a usually overlooked part of the story of the organ---the mechanical or barrel organ. This particular type of instrument played an integral part in the early days of church music and later became a king in its own right in the field of secular music. The author traces the evolutoion of the barrel organ from its primitive origins to thye electronic consoles of modern times, with a special look at the preservation and repair of the grand Victorian-era instruments. A near fine, tight copy, bit of light staining to the outer edge of the text block. In moderately rubbed dust jacket.
