London: Methuen & Co. Ltd. Good+ with no dust jacket. 1940. 1st UK Edition. Hardcover. In the original publisher's slightly glossy pictorial boards. Orange cloth spine - a little wrinkled, but NO loss. Large thin Folio - 14.4" x 10.5". 1st UK Edition with 1940 on the title page. The boards have some edge wear - light scratches, and surface paper loss at edges and, particularly, at the corners. A former owner has coloured the exposed edges to match and the boards look at least Good Plus now. Rare to find a 78 year old book of this size without some outer wear. SEE IMAGES. Internally pictorial red/grey/black/white 'elephant' endpapers. 40 pp. Delightful coloured illustrations, the colour is never quite the same in later reprints. One 'closed ' tear on pp 7/8 running from the inner edge out but not affecting any text or illustrations - the tear is NOT repaired with tape, and you might miss it completely unless looking for it. Otherwise, apart from this closed tear, internally Very Good - such lovely bright colours, and with NO INSCRIPTIONS or any major marks - just the odd light spot, one small edge tear (0.5" neatly closed with clear archive tape) , a few smudges, etc, here and there, on a blank edge or similar only.
