A full-color collection of over 100 Polaroid portraits from Tanaka of many of the creative luminaries of NYC, accompanied by brief artistic statements (to our knowledge, most if not all never published elsewhere) from those pictured: poets, painters, musicians, architects. artists, designers, photographers, etc. Includes John Ashbery, Basquiat, John Cage, Christo, Eric Fischl, Keith Haring, Debbie Harry, Marc Jacobs, Barbara Kruger, Kenneth Koch, Annie Leibovitz, Robert Longo, Robert Mapplethorpe, Richard Meier, Chris Makos, Duane Michals, Peter Nagy, Nam June Paik, Richard Prince, Kenny Scharf, Julian Schnabel, Richard Serra, John Sex, Elliott Sharp, Andy Warhol, David Wojnarowicz, John Zorn, and many others. A scarce book, all the more in this condition and this complete. OCLC finds only 4 locations. 12'' x 8.5''. Original glossy pictorial wraps in original slipcase, secured with original stiff plastic bands as issued. [124]pp. Includes original stapled B&W pamphlet translating artists' statement into Japanese. Mild wear to slipcase. Book bright, clean, and sharp overall.
