Mechanicsburg, PA: Stackpole Books. Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket. 1997. First Edition. Hardcover. 0811701360 . SIGNED by the author on the title page and dated 1999. An penetrating look at Butler and the Army of the James which was in existence for a year and a half, during which time it siezed Richmond, and helped force the surrender of Lee's Army. The large numbers of civilians in this Army led to politicization according to Longacre. The Army of the James also fielded a full Corps of African American troops. The covers are the original publisher's half cloth binding with blue cloth spine and gilt spine lettering. A nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings. The dust jacket in similarly nice condition with no chips, tears, or markings. ; B&W Illustrations & Maps; 8vo, 8"- 9" tall; 388 pages; Signed by Author .
