A record of changes in taste -technology with clarity- precision, explaining the methods of construction of wood, iron, steel, aluminum cars. Tracing - evolution of wheels & brakes, dining cars, sleeping compartments, the revolutions in taste & technology that dramatically altered the appearance of the railroad passenger car over the century and a half that it dominated American travel. Extraordinary resource for railroad hobbyists Detailed plans / diagrams accompanying the text make it possible for model-builders to reconstruct many famous passenger cars themselves...Appendixes contain biographies of coach builders and designers; numerous tables comparing models, materials, and prices; a chronology of passenger cars; an annotated bibliography.-Oversized hardcover former library book in acceptable condition. Dark blue hardcovers - silver engraving -lettering are good, boards do show fading at the edges. Spine seems loose but still together.
