The first edition of this uncommon work.Presentation copy, with a blind stamp to the head of the title page.An anthology of charming stories compiled by Leonora Blanche Alleyne, and edited by her husband, the noted compiler of the 'Fairy Books' series, Andrew Lang.Including 'How a Boy Became First a Lamb and Then an Apple', 'In the Shadow of the Guillotine', 'Heracles the Dragon-Killer', 'The Sword of d'Artagnan', and more.Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, four colour plates, thirteen monochrome plates, and in-text illustrations throughout. Illustrated by H. J. Ford.Collated, complete. In the original publisher's cloth binding, gilt to the front board is bright. Externally, smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Light rubbing to the spine. Fading to the tail of the spine. A couple of light marks to the boards. Hinges are starting but firm. Gift inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with the occasional scattered spot, mostly to the first and last few pages. Very Good

We specialise in rare and hard to come by works on all subjects over the last 500 years, together with modern first editions and decorative sets and bindings. Our library has something for every interest and specialism. We deliver worldwide using a fully tracked and insured courier delivery service.
Where are We?
Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
