Collection of traditional folk tales from First Nation/Native American history. The author (1900-1970), a curator & librarian at the Alaska Historical Museum & Library in Seattle, first heard the tales as a schoolboy in the remote Eskimo village of Shishmaref on the Seward Peninsula in Alaska, where his parents taught school. The artist, George Aden Ahgupuk (1911-2001), who became known as "Twok," was an Alaska schoolboy in that same village; this was the very first book he illustrated. Stapled binding, in 138 +[2] pages, with lithographed illustrations by the artist throughout. Author Keithahn has SIGNED this book by his photo in the front with his name, city, & date only. A FIRST EDITION, First Printing, from 1958, this oblong softcover 12mo (7" x 10") has deep green wrappers elaborately decorated with silver illustrations & lettering to front cover. Condition is Near Fine: exceptionally clean & bright, appears never read. Very modest rubbing to extremities & slight corner bumping. Pages . r hardcover small octavo has cloth-covered boards lettered in silver to spine. Condition is clean & bright, binding strong & straight, pages creamy white with a hint of tanning, but completely unmarked.
