Sobre este item

New York: Doubleday, Page & Company,, 1926. First edition, first printing, inscribed by the author on the half-title, "To Mr & Mrs Edgar Sessions, in memory of a lovely day, from the Author Radclyffe Hall, July 15th 1926". The recipients were likely Edgar Sessions (1843-1934) and his wife, Sylvia Louise Bentley (1854-1944), who lived for many years in Graham, Arizona. Works by Hall are scarce inscribed. Hall's novels "reflect in varying degrees her deep sense of being a social outsider and, increasingly, demonstrate her preoccupation with a search for spiritual self-knowledge through suffering and denial... Adam's Breed, a best-seller which also won two prestigious literary prizes, the Femina Vie Heureuse and James Tait Black (only E. M. Forster's A Passage to India had previously achieved this 'double'), marked the peak of her career" (ODNB). Octavo. Original black cloth, spine and front cover lettered in red, top edge red, fore edge untrimmed. Spine slightly cocked, a few small marks to cloth, extremities bumped and rubbed, cracked at gutter before first gathering. A very good copy.
