A very good copy, square and tightly bound, modest wear, black top stain unevenly faded, a few pages at the end discretely repaired; the original dust jacket is in good only condition, with chipping at the edges and the usual fading of the red portion of the spine panel.PRINTING HISTORY: The first printing of The Sound and the Fury consisted of 1789 copies, published in 1929. The second printing, from October 1931, consisted of a mere 400 copies. The third and final printing by Cape and Smith consisted of 1000 copies the following month, and exists in three variants: the first is identical to the previous two printings in black and white patterned board with a white cloth spine; the second variant is in full navy blue cloth with Cape and Smith listed as the publisher at the base of the spine; the final variant (presented here) is also in full navy blue cloth, but with Random House listed as the publisher on the spine.
