Original green moire cloth with printed paper title label to upper board. Spine darkened with a couple of chips to upper joint and light wear head & tail. Small printed bookplate to front pastedown with ghost of larger plate beneath it. Inner hinges weak. Damp stain to lower edge ffep, frontis & title page; handwritten name to title. 2 engravings damp-stained to edge.

Hartlepool; F W Mason, circa 1900., 1900. Undated circa 1886. Poster approximately 77 cm x 51 cm. Single sheet with bold titles and underlining. Creases from folding and a little surface soiling; several small nicks to edge and 2 cm tear central upper edge with associated creasing and very minor loss. The main text is a series of questions posed at working class readers beginning with "Why should you be treated as if you are social outcasts?". The background to the questions is the Intoxication Liquor Act of 1901 to limit Sunday opening of pubs and restrict their other opening times, stated to be "an insult to every labouring man" and a "tyranny of the worst kind" as it would penalise those on small incomes unable to store supplies of alcohol in a cellar. The Bill was principally intended to prevent overly intoxicated working men from sending their children to the pub to buy them more drink. The poster encourages readers to oppose the Bill and sign a petition against it. Unrecorded.

Spine rubbed; rear cover lightly surface soiled with two 1 cm splits to edge; corners creased. Inner hinges repaired tidily with archival tape; no annotation or inscriptions. A Very Good copy overall. Colourful sales brochure packed with images of the model's exterior and interior, showing the available colours and variations, the engine and chassis. Air conditioning was just one of the innovations newly available to potential customers, and the illustrations depict men and women of apparently affluent circumstances enjoying their luxury cars. Scarce.

Publishers' jade green quarter cloth with gilt titles to spine and cream paper-covered boards, in unclipped pictorial dust-jacket designed by Joel Avirom. Clean and crisp with no annotation or inscriptions; publishers' remainder "P" mark to upper edge of text-block. Jacket slightly toned to white flaps and a little surface scuffed but bright and unfaded. A Near Fine copy in like jacket. 'A Pale View of Hills' won the 1982 Winifred Holtby Memorial Prize. First Edition of the first novel by the Nobel Prize�winning author.

White limp cloth with gilt titles to spine and gilt motif of the tools of the trade to upper board, housed in plain card drop-back box. Slight creases to boards from box flaps otherwise a Fine copy. Signed by the Author to verso half title; no annotation or inscriptions. Box scuffed and creased with wear to extremities. Mason, the book binder and lecturer, was unable to buy a large enough supply of special paper for his bindery work following the Second World War, so he experimented at home and produced his own. This practical guide gives detailed and precise instructions for any other prospective paper-makers, and this edition was amended and republished by the Author.

Wraps a little nicked & creased to edge with minor loss at tips; title inscribed to upper cover above cancelled Natural History Society of Newcastle upon Tyne stamp; further stamp to title page. Bookplate of the Joseph Wright Bequest to inner front cover. ). Lecture read at the evening meeting Nov 23rd 1876, from the Natural History Transactions of Northumberland, Durham and Newcastle-on-Tyne Vol VII 1877, on the subject of birds eggs and their characteristics. Richard Miles (1740-1819) was a dealer in coins and medals and the authority on the subject in his time; the sale of his collection was a major event in numismatic circles, and it included Roman, Greek and oriental coins, as well as tokens and medals from many different sources.

Peter Varty was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal, given to non-commissioned personnel for "an act or acts of valour, courage or devotion to duty whilst flying in active operations against the enemy". The novel is the story of a typical Pathfinder crew, their backstories and their mission to raid a target in Germany so would have been of great interest to one who had personally lived through similar experiences.
