Hong Kong; Victoria Printing Press, 1935., 1935. Hardcover. FIRST EDITION. Octavo. 142 pp, [22] lists of Ship's Company and Officers. Illustrated throughout with photographs, cartoons and maps. Book Condition: Very Good. Original midnight blue full calf with gilt titles to spine and upper board. Spine tips rubbed & minor wear to corners; a couple of small stains to lower board. Endpapers toned and a few minor fingermarks in text otherwise a clean copy; no annotation or inscriptions. A record of the Third Commission of H M S Suffolk during 1933-35 by Instructor Lieut. -Commander R G Howard, with accounts of visits to numerous locations including Bali, Borneo and Nagasaki and events such as "Crossing the Line" and a Japanese tea ceremony. The Suffolk was built in Portsmouth in 1924, commissioned in 1928 and served on the China Station until the outbreak of World War II; during the War she was part of the Norwegian Campaign which included her tracking the Bismarck through the Denmark Strait. Scarce.

Book Condition: Very Good.Textured white card wraps with raised running figure to front. Covers lightly surface soiled. Loosely inserted is an invitation with printed envelope to the Opening Reception of the Kowloon Exhibition, with cover matching that of the book and colour illustration inside "High Jumpers Practising". Catalogue of an Exhibition of oil paintings and lithographs in Hong Kong with bilingual Chinese and English text, celebrating the cultural relations between Switzerland and Hong Kong and a scarce example of work by the major Swiss sporting artist.

Damp staining to boards (heavy to lower board with small holes to cover cloth) and rubbing/wear to extremities otherwise very good. No inscriptions.

Cover cloth lightly surface soiled with seven small worm-holes to spine; rubbed at spine tips with corners lightly bumped. A tourist's guide to the area with information on what to visit, transport, accommodation and the best ways to ascend Snowdon. Rare - at time of writing, only two copies were listed on Copac.

The popular guide to Hadrian's Wall, brought up-to-date to 1885 (the first printing was 1863) with additional plans and illustrations and an account of the Roman citizenship diploma found at the Chesters.

Disbound notebook a little soiled and corner creased with 6-inch tear across 3 leaves and some leaves partially detached, but still completely readable. English country house recipe book covering Swiss Roll to Christmas Cake, featuring mainly sweets and puddings but also including substantial medicinal notes and recipes for invalids, and a few household hints. Quarter pebbled bottle-green cloth with gilt titles to spine and marbled paper-covered boards. Cloth a little rubbed at spine tips and edges worn. First blank inscribed with notes on "specially interesting local items" to verso and second blank inscribed "Local Railways: A List of Books Relating to Railways including many of the North-Country Guides, Handbooks, Plans &c, &c compiled by Stanley J G Cotterrell formerly resident at Summerville, Rothbury". Stamp dated July 93 to original wraps, which have minor loss to edge; marginal crosses in text. A good copy. Scarce bibliographical reference work listing early railway related material in detail, arranged chronologically by publication date within themed chapters covering lines, locomotion and reference books. Top edge gilt; marbled endpapers to match boards. Edges a little scuffed. Retailer's ticket to front pastedown and ownership inscription to first blank of each; minor scattered foxing, mainly to margins. Inner rear hinge of "Plain or Ringlets" cracked. Overall a handsome set of Surtees' comic novels.

Overall a Good copy in like jacket. Very well illustrated & comprehensive overview of London's railway system. Scarce, particularly in the original 1928 dust-jacket.

Lower corner of upper board bruised and spine tips lightly creased; a bright copy. Scattered foxing mainly to prelims and textblock edge; some line drawings tidily coloured-in by hand. Small red stain from cloth to rfep; no annotation or inscriptions. Jacket torn with loss top edge front (approx 3 inches x 1), and repaired to verso with transparent adhesive tape; minor loss to corners. Scarce in the original dust-jacket.

Scarce title written by a woman about the experiences of other women in cultures in the far East. The prolific American author (1877-1945) travelled extensively with her diplomat husband, and highlighted the very different lifestyles of especially Asian and Islamic women and the culture of the time.

Dust-jacket is spine sunned with tiny chips to spine tips and corners. Light toning to back panel. Unclipped. A Near Fine copy in a Very Good dust-jacket. Fourth collection of poetry and drawings from Stevie Smith. Smith's disquieting, idiosyncratic, and uncompromising writing style earned her admirers in Seamus Heaney, Andrew Motion and Sylvia Plath, with Plath penning fan mail to Smith in 1962, in which she described herself as "a desperate Smith-addict."
