Edges rubbed with wear at corners and spine tips; upper board wrinkled. Rare in original hardcover. SIGNED by the author in blue ink and numbered 32/40 copies with limitation slip tipped in. Selection of short stories, essays and criticism from 1920s onwards, by the acclaimed poet. Quarter calf with gilt titles and decoration to spine, and marbled paper-covered boards. Calf scuffed, with crack to upper joint but holding firmly; minor loss at head of spine, and corners worn. Inner front hinge cracked, with upper half of title page loose; some corner-creasing to leaves. Numerous illegible ownership signatures in the same hand throughout; some marginal annotation, including 42nd Citadel Corfu. The 42nd (Royal Highland The Black Watch) were stationed in the Mediterranean, principally at Malta and Corfu through the late 1830's to mid 1840's. Detailed instructions to ensure the correct formation for exercises and inspections, with and without arms, and for the movement of battalions, brigades and lines including those for light infantry formations. Scarce.

Plates II and III very slightly misfolded with associated creasing to edge. A Near Fine copy overall. Account of the archaeological excavations carried out from 1902-1905 on the Gartshore estate; the reports were originally written for the "Proceedings" of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, here published for accessibility by a wider range of readers.

Bidwell was responsible for the excavation of Vindolanda, and the reconstruction of Segedunum, on Hadrian's Wall, and remains one of the most respected archaeologists of his generation.

"Being a selection of essays and stories too long out of print" from the master of Weird Fiction, Arthur Machen.

Publisher's navy cloth with photograph and gilt titles to upper board, and gilt titles to spine. Mustard ribbon place-marker; all in unclipped cream pictorial jacket. A hint of a bruise to spine head and a touch of surface rubbing to spine tips and corners. Small area of surface rubbing to dust-jacket lower panel, with light mark to spine. Widely considered to be the third volume of Machen's autobiography, these 'wanderings' were initially published as articles in the London Evening News from 1910 to 1921, before Machen revised them into book form in 1924.

A little foxing mainly to textblock edge and endpapers; light damp-stains to boards. Jacket creased & torn with loss across tail of spine (approx 1-inch spreading to 2-inches) and minor loss to head; associated minor sunning to cover cloth head/tail of spine. No annotation or inscriptions. Deservedly one of the best-loved of all books on the Border; rare in wrapper.

Deservedly one of the best-loved of all books on the Border. The Second edition is widely considered the best edition, with additional material and corrections from the First. Rare in wrapper. A solid, square copy. An attractively bound copy of this important horticultural work, complete with all of the exquisite hand-coloured plates. The Florist's Directory was the first book devoted entirely to "florists flowers" including the Auricula, Anemone, Carnation, Hyacinth,Tulip, Polyanthus & Ranunculus.
