Thomas Babington Macaulay (1800-1859) was an English historian, poet, literary critic and politician. This copy is bound in 3/4 dark green leather over marbled boards. The spine has five raised bands with gilt spine lettering and compartment decoration. Top edges of all volumes are gilt. Marbled end paper. Pagination: vol.1 585 p.; vol. 2 611 p.; vol. 3. 626 p. There is just a little edgewear to this set. The contents are clean and free of foxing or staining. There is a previous owner's bookplate on the front paste down in each volume. ; 8vo, 8"- 9" tall .

Detroit: R. L. Polk & Company. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1987. Reprint. Softcover. This is a facsimilie reprint of the rare 1837 original edition which was published by R. L. Polk in Detroit in honor of Michigan's sesquicentennial. It is a cornerstone of any Michigan collection as it was published in the year Michigan was admitted to the Union and provides a great deal of historical and factual information regarding the state and Detroit in addition to a list of household heads, their address and occupation. This primary source material provides much more information on individuals than the United States Census of 1830 which only lists the names of household heads, omitting place of residence and occupation. This copy is bound in stiff green printed wrappers, stapled with three staples, and with black spine. Original printed R. L. Polk letter accompanying this book laid in, dated July 1987. Sault Ste Marie: Sault Star Publishing. Good+. 1975. Fifth Printing. Softcover. Kirkwood Township is in Ontario, Canada. The author provides a detailed look at lumbering in this part of Ontario and the text is illustrated with interesting photos from the lumbering era. The top corner is cut from rear end blank end paper (probably to remove an owner name at some time). Also, one interior photo has coffee ring on it and there is rippling to the bottom portion of about 50 pages. Covers are the original stiff wrappers decorated to represent wood grain with green lettering and illustration of a log sled on the front wrapper. Bernarr Macfadden (1868 - 1985) was an early proponent of exercise, health and physical culture who published a number of books and magazines as well as engaging in promotional displays and health retreats. This is one of his earliest publications; he addresses problems that many women of his era faced (Curse of Prudishness, Corsets, Tight Skirts and Shoes, Play, Exercise, air baths, etc.) and offers solutions for improving health that primarily center on diet and exercise. Includes a number of b&w photos of women performing various exercises as well as examples of women who could benefit from various exercises. An interesting early work on this topic. The author chronicles the history and development of his town year-by-year, from its incorporation in 1927 to 1976. There is also information on the history of churches, hospitals, public departments, etc. This was undoubtedly published in conjunction as part of the national bicentennial celebration in 1976.
