Rarely found in such bright and clean condition, this novel is chronologically number ten in the series that has Hornblower confronting pirates, revolutionaries and a blistering hurricane as he struggles to impose order as a Rear Admiral. A very attractive volume for all devotees.

Printed on wartime yellowing paper, this first edition first impression is chronologically the seventh volume of the series and is surprisingly scarce. Of interest is the advertisement on the rear d/w flap for the BBC broadcasting service recommending itsellf to the inhabitants of the occupied countries of Europe. THe spine is tight and firm and the book is now protected by clear archival covering, Text in very good condition with only age yellowing and very mild foxing throughout, devoid of prior owner markings. The third book of the Hornblower series and is as always, a delight to read.

Spine is tight and firm. with trivial upper edge flecking only, text is in excellent condition devoid of any prior owner markings and overall the volume is near fine. This farewell volume of Hornblower contains the uncompleted last Hornblower novel thus being the eleventh book of the series but is chronologically the fourth and the two short stories hitherto unpublished in book form. The novel breaks off at a natural narrative climax and is as well executed as any of the novels preceding it, as the author died before he could finish it. Set six months before the Battle of Trafalgar an addendum to the book then describes the planned plot and outcome gleaned posthumously from Forester's notes.

This is the the seventh Hornblower book though it is the second chronologically and is one of the three books that formed the basis of the TV series.
