[New York]: [Various], 1991. Very good overall.. Collection of five different versions of Acker's first critically acclaimed work - including a pre-publication copy of her own corrected typescript. The pre-publication copy gives key insight not only into Acker's writing methods, but also raises interesting questions about the intended structure of the finished story, and highlights the mutable interpretations regarding the published presentation of her prose writing, via four different versions included herein. This copy was sent by Acker in late 1979 to friend and fellow experimental writer Paul Buck. An unusually comprehensive collection of 17 matched in-store signage for a furrier (or possibly department store fur section), all printed text in multiple colors on a variety of colored and marbled stocks with occasional ornamentation. Based on design and fonts, we date these to ca. 1940. Subjects include exhortations to proper storage (at the store's own cold storage, of course), tailoring and cleaning services, prices ("Fur prices / like other prices / are trending upward / - Don't delay..."), reasons for purchasing (graduation gifts, etc.), among many other pitches. A visually compelling, if pushy, archive of luxury marketing during fur's pre-PETA popular height. Printed card-stock broadside advertising. All approx. 16" x 11". Generally very good. Some soil, edge-wear. Small tear here and there.

Hull: Hull University, 1971. First Edition. Very good.. Original poster for an Afro Rock event at Hull University, featuring one of the most important bands of the movement, Assagai. Afro Rock, which had its strongest incarnation in the UK in the late sixties and early seventies, combined Western rock instrumentation with African and Afro-Cuban rhythms and percussion. Assagai featured emegrees from both South Africa and Nigeria, as well a Ghana; the lineup included drummer Louis Moholo, trumpeter/flautist Mongezi Feza, alto saxophonist Dudu Pukwana, tenor saxophonist Bizo Mngqikana, guitarist/bassist Fred Coker (their chief songwriter), and Terri Quaye - the first professional female congaist in the UK. Assagai issued just two highly-reguarded albums (both in 1971) on Vertigo Records, one of the few if not the only all-black band signed to that legendary rock label, and this poster dates from that peak.
