A review in The Farmer's Magazine for 1824 begins, "The subject of this work must be, in a great measure, new to the landlords and farmers of Scotland; and even in England, as the author assures us, scarcely any publications of a similar nature have yet appeared. But its novelty is not the only claim that it has on the attention of these classes.
