Cloth is edge worn and chipped head of the spine and on the corners. Moderate scattered foxing and browning to the contents. Inscription by previous owner on right front flyleaf, "Middleton Pope, Avenel Geo." His pencil inscription is also written on the front blank end sheet, "Middleton Pope, Avenel Oglethorpe Co. Geo.

Eps Are Foxed However The Text Block Is Mainly Aged Not Foxed. Front Ep And Fly Leaf Have A Signature On Otherwise The Book Is Unmarked. Both Boards Are Attached And Are Blind Stamped . The Spine Is Attached At The Rear But Not At The Front Edge. A Gilt Horse Rampant Is On The Tail Of The Spine A The Title At The Top, The Gilt Slightly Dulled.. Chipping To Head And Tail Of The Spine, With A Couple Of Small Pieces Missing From The Head. Rubbing To Most Edges And Free Corners. A Few Small Dogears At The Bottom Corner. Obviously A Well Used And Loved Book Which Has Still Got Lots Of Historical Information. Heavy May Require Extra Shipping.

Black label containing gilt titles, as well as gilt embellishment, to spine. Edges speckled brown. Some spotting/soiling to interior and endpapers. Previous ownership inscription in black ink to title page, dated to the 1830s. Light rubbing to boards, some discolouration and scuffing to calf. Wear to spine, joints, and board extremities. Very good. A product of the partnership between the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge and William Youatt, accomplished veterinarian and animal researcher whose influence reached Darwin. The SDUK (1826-1848) was a project implemented by Whig politician Henry Brougham to publish cheap educational texts for the working/middle class reader. This book comes from their Farmers Series, and covers the horse's general history, anatomy, behavioural instincts, and proper management.

S, Andrus & Son. P. 1851. 1st Edition (?). Hardcover. This book is not returnable as it is in very poor condition and being sold AS IS. Brown covers in well used condition with corners having open wear. Some time in the past this book was repaired with heavy brown tape to keep covers together as the spine is completely missing. This tape goes about an inch or two onto the front and rear covers and has dried and separated from front cover. Previous owner resided in Dryden NY. Several front and rear pages are in bad condition as some are partially or completely separated. Having edge roll or tear, etc. Most of the text is still quite clean/shaky with nothing other what has been previously mentioned falling apart. No athor's name can be found however Wm. Youatt has been mentioned in other books abount the same age.
