Some rub-marking and tanning to pastedowns and endpapers. Boards have mild shelf wear with light rubbing and corner bumping. Some light marking and sunning. Book has noticeable forward lean. Boards are slightly bowed.

Mild cracking to gutters, however binding remains firm. Clipped front endpaper. Previous owner's inscription to front endpaper. Boards have light edgewear with corner crushing and notable marking to boards. Mild tanning to board edges and spine, which has mild crushing to ends. Mild water stains and droplets to boards.

Pages remain clear with minimal tanning and foxing, mild to end-papers and text-block edges. Pages heavily water stained throughout. Heavy notes to final blank pages. Hinges are cracked with exposed netting. Some occasional mild cracking to gutters throughout, binding remains reasonably firm. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Cloth has minor damp and dust stains. Mild crushing to spine ends. Book has a slight forward lean. Gilt lettering is darkened.

A lovely selection of poems by William Butler Yates published in this format for the first time in 1929 including some previously unpublished material. There is an illustration of Yeats from an engraving by Sargent on the title page. Blue cloth covered boards with embossed decoration to the front, gilt lettering to the spine and gilt top edges to the pages. In clean and sound condition apart from a rust mark from a paper clip to the top of the page between the front free end paper and the half title page. The erratum slip is present. Slight wear / bumping to the edges of the boards. Included with this copy is a hand-written letter on "The Nation" letterhead requesting a review of the book and signed by Frank Gallagher of Irish nationalism fame. The First UK printing published by Macmillan And Co., London in 1929 The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Neat contemporary inscription to the upper front blank end paper. Just a hint of edge wear. Gilt top-stain and titling remain very bright. Light offsetting to the end-papers. Some spotting to the text-block with a little light spotting to the prelims and the edges of a few pages. The engraved title-vignette is by Sargent and the upper board is blocked in blind to an elaborate art deco design by Ricketts. Only 1500 copies were printed with some poems included that had not been published previously(Wade 165). The erratum slip is not present. Protected by a loose Mylar archival cover.
