New York: R. Martin, 1849. Hardcover. Poor. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, full brown leather binding ornately decorated in gilt on all sides, all three textblock edges also gilt. The book is complete and the interior binding is good but the reason for the poor condition grade is the front cover is detached and there is a large chip missing from the top edge of the spine. The internal binding of the text pages is secure and interior is still well bound. There is moderate foxing throughout and pages are toned. The second front end page contains the signature from the original owner and the second and third front end pages show very faint evidence of wear and old store price was once penciled in the corner. Front and rear end pages and pastedowns are of a blind stamped paisley style design. These pages do show darkening in spots along the edges, as seen in the photos.

Sm 4to hardcover in black leather, with floral gilt-stamped border, and blindstamped scrollwork frame around a gilt rendition of Richard Westall's famous portrait to both front and rear. Four raised bands to spine with gilt titling to second compartment and gilt scrollwork and butterflies to others. All edges gilt. 122pp. Finely executed engravings throughout. Binding copy only. Front board detached, and spine leather loosening from front joint. Leather erose by several inches at spine tips. Corners and rear joint rubbed. Previous owner's names to first and second front endpapers. Toning and foxing throughout. Rear hinge cracked. Inquire if you need further information.

Full green leather with gilt floral designs on both scuffed covers, spine, five compartments, repaired along spine (lower spine has an abrasion boo boo that has been fixed), severe wear along edges and corners marring an otherwise lovely Victorian binding, VG, tall 4to, 122pps, AEG, much foxing to pages and the many tissue guarded plates (some of which are clean and could be framed) as usual for this publication.
