His presidency was cut short after he was shot by Charles J. Guiteau while entering a railroad station in Washington D.C. on July 2, 1881. First edition of this excellent biography of one of Americas largely forgotten Presidents, former Civil War General -- assassinated only three months after his inauguration by a lone gunman. McCabe has included an extensive section on the circumstances and investigation of the assassination, as well as details about Charles Guiteau.

Every volume contains a sample of the text and various illustrations from the printed book, with the 'London Dickens' advertising a set rather than a single title. Both 'The London Dickens' and 'Our Martyred President' contain samples of alternative bindings, including leather. 'Earl Kitchener' contains instructions to salesmen. All volumes used with some wear and tear. An uncommon collection of sample volumes. Very good.
