Exterior shows scuffing and spotting along with edge and corner bumps/wear. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues except for some pulling in spots. Pages are toned due to age and there is some foxing and spotting present, as well as a few corner folds and small dampstains - which are mainly in the corners of the rear pages. The front end page shows the original owner's info written upside down in pencil and the rear end page/pastedown also has some penciling. Also included with the book is a piece of ephemera. It is about the size of a bookplate with the backside gummed (but not used) the title on the ephemera reads "L. L. Ticket) along with four names for salutatory, oration, periodical, and debate. This mid-nineteenth century reader contains early inclusion of Edgar Allan Poe's classics "The Raven" and "The Bells". Dark brown pebbled boards, leather spine wrap, gilt spine titles between seven ribbed bands, moderate shelf wear, rub. Light pink and blue marble patterned text block at all sides. Pages generally very good w/toning, small sticker-pull at endpapers, very old oak leave set in w/toning to these pages; no writing. Scarce near very good nineteenth century educational material from the Harper's School and Family Series.
