Edges are tanned with a trace of wear to the extremities else near fine in edge tanned and light worn dustjacket lacking a few chips at the spine and fragment the top rear panel. Top front panel has a light circular stain else very good and appearing better than described here. A nice copy of this beautifully printed fourth edition of photographer Karl Blossfeldt's now renowned collection of photographs of plants. Scarce in any condition or edition, especially with a dustjacket in any condition. Text in German. Roth 101.. Fourth Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. Large Quarto.

Beige cloth, gray lettering & ornament on front cover, gray lettering on spine (slight foxing to endpapers, very minor shelfwear), w/ d.j. (minor chipping head & foot of spine, minor darkening & soiling to spine, couple minor tears, very minor creasing), still NF/G copy. Fifth edition of this magnificent modernist classic of the famed German photographer’s “Art Forms in Nature.” Blossfeldt (1865-1932) meticulously arranged the flowers, stems, leaves, buds, tendrils, seeds, and seed pods in intricate and elegant architectural structures, often greatly magnified, intending to use these images to educate his students about design in nature. Scarce in dustjacket.

Dark blue cloth with gilt title to spine. A total of 120 black/white plates. German text. Ex-library with perforated library stamp to title page, as well as to the bottom of the last plate, and the usual library remnants to the rear pastedown. Otherwise a tight clean copy with no pervious owners' names or other markings. 9.5 x 12.25 in

Berlin: Verlag Ernst Wasmuth, 1929. Cloth. Very Good +/Very Good. The 1929 stated 2nd edition of this seminal photographic study of plants and flowers, IN ITS UNCOMMON PICTORIAL DUSTJACKET. Loosely translated from its German as "Archetypes of Art", Karl Blossfeldt's groundbreaking portraits, all in rich, lavish gravure, highlight the brilliance --and the beauty-- of nature's remarkable design. A very solid copy to boot: Tight and VG+ to Near Fine, with bright, completely unrubbed gilt-titling and insignia along the front panel. Internally, clean as could be, with no writing or markings of any kind. And in a crisp, VG dustjacket, with light chipping along the spine ends (at the spine crown very light loss, at the spine base 1 1/2" of loss) and at the tips. Mild scuffing and soiling as well to the panels but the jacket remains attractive and very presentable. Tall quarto, 120 plates all told. Edited and with an Introduction by Karl Nierendorf.
