Note: a heavily damaged book with loose front board. Pages are rather marked with pronounced tanning and foxing, plus thumbing. Pencil inscriptions to front endpaper. A few dog-eared corners. Heavy water staining to first few pages. Intense cracking to hinges. Boards have heavy edge wear, with bumping and fraying to corners and almost total loss of edge tooling. Spine ends are crushed and frayed. Joints worn too. Large loss of spine leather with visible gatherings and possible fire damage. Front board almost detached. Scratched, rubbed and marked overall.

The covers are very clean, tight and straight and are not the original. Clean off-white replacement end papers. Tanned cut edges. The text block is original from publisher; a little worn; tightly bound; some pages slightly wrinkled; sporadic foxing. Very good condition. No annotations or dedications. Without jacket.

Binding itself is intact. The leather spine covering is cracked along the edge and across in places, and missing some of the top corner; there is a small piece of clear adhesive tape on the front edge of the bottom panel. Leather covering is worn, with tips exposed. Endpapers foxed, but not the pages. Name in ink on title page and another on the front free endpaper. Two pages are missing tip of top corner.
