Binding firm pages have occasional spotting and there is a very faint water mark on the bottom front page corners throughout . Blue cloth has clear gilt text with some light scuffing on the front . Presentation inscription from the author to Mr A J Benjafield 1922 , owners name stamped on the ep's and title page . pp 183, tissue protected frontis, fold out map at the rear with small tears . Index, illustrated throughout , line drawings maps and a sectional plan of the ship

Off setting on the title page from the tissue guard as usual. Bookplate on the front pastedown. Edges a bit foxed otherwise a clean copy. Spine and front board lettering a bit dull as usual. A far better copy than normal, without the usual bubbling of the cloth. Rosove 87.A1.9; Spence 384. "As captain of the Aurora during Mawson's 1911-14 expedition, Davis was able to produce one of the few first-hand accounts available in print. His publishers, however, clearly had wartime difficulties with the book, most often seen today with its gilt lettering and decoration badly faded" (Taurus).
